Dù 2 sự kiện khó có thể so sánh với nhau, nghe tin ông Lê Hiếu Đằng tuyên bố ra khỏi ĐCS tôi không thể không nhớ đến Yeltsin:
"As the highest elected figure in the republic, I can only subordinate myself to the will of the people and its elected representatives. I therefore announce my resignation from the Communist Party of the Soviet Union,"
Sau khi Yeltsin ra khỏi đảng một loạt đảng viên cũng trả lại thẻ đảng, khởi đầu cho một kỷ nguyên mới của nước Nga.
